The Art Diner is excited to introduce our new teacher, illustrator, Kim Gatto On April 27 from 2-4:30 and May 4 from 2-4:30, Kim will lead the kids through creating their very own character and give the characters a storyline. In the first class students will create a character using Kim's character profile sheet. They will be able to choose from 3 kinds of characters: a Monster, Alien or Animal. They will create their character based on shapes and we will discuss silhouettes, personalities, and how to name their characters. Students will practice character development and drawing techniques. They will be using ink pens and color pencils for their final image. In the second class the students will illustrate a story around their character creation while learning about composition, perspective and storyboard layouts. The final storyboard will incorporate 4 images and have a title. The images will be drawn with pencil, inked and colored. They will also be using a prompt for the 4 images: 1. Once upon a time… 2. And then… 3. You can’t believe what happened next… 4. and lastly... ***Those 4 phrases will make up your 4 images. The students should come prepared by choosing: One character: Monster, Alien or Animal One setting: Space, Underwater, Forest One conflict: Something is lost, trying to get somewhere, trying to reach something This class is appropriate for 3rd to 6th graders. No experience necessary. All materials and instructions will be included. Meet Kim! Kim Gatto is an Illustrator and Designer for Childrens books as well as gift and home decor companies.
